Frequently Asked Questions
The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have found acupuncture to be effective in the treatment of various illnesses and disorders. Acupuncture is extremely safe because it is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, yielding no side effects except feelings of relaxation and well-being.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an effective form of health care evolved from ancient practices of complete and holistic systems and beliefs. Acupuncture utilizes sterile, fine needles at specific acupoints on the body to invoke its "Qi". This promotes natural healing by enhancing recuperative power, immunity, and physical & emotional health.
What can Acupuncture treat?
The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have found acupuncture to be effective in the treatment of various illnesses and disorders such as asthma, allergic rhinitis (including hay fever), depression, dysentery, facial pain, headaches, migraines, knee pains, low back pains, nausea & vomiting, neck pains, sprains, smoking, alcohol & drug addiction, hypertension and many more. Acupuncture is also used as an alternative to cosmetic peels, surgery and injections.
Do the needles hurt?
The sensation caused by an acupuncture needle varies on individuals. Some feel a gentle tingling or numbness around the site. Most people do not feel the insertion at all because the needles are so fine. The depth of insertion of the needles also varies depending on treatment and location of the acupoints. Velona Therapy uses disposable and sterile needles in every treatment session.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will vary for each individual. Relief may be immediate or take from a few sessions to a few months depending on the disorder and person. Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute ones. Your Acupuncturist will work with you on a treatment and maintenance plan to recovery.
What does a treatment consist of?
During the initial exam a full health history will be taken by your Acupuncturist. Your pulse will be taken to reflect your overall health condition and your tongue may be examined to reflect the general health of your organs and meridians to your practitioner. Because Acupuncture is based on the philosophy of "Qi" flowing through the body, many specific pathways called "meridians" (like rivers) connect to specific organs and glands. Meridians transport life-giving Qi to nourish and energize every cell, organ, gland, tissue and muscle in your body. Your Acupuncturist will be able to determine your overall condition by examining your physical appearance, your tongue and by taking your pulse.
Do I have to take any herbs for my treatments?
Herbs and/or herbal formulas can be a powerful adjunct to acupuncture care. Your Acupuncturist may suggest specific herbs and ointments to complement your treatments to help strengthen, build and support the body, or to clear it of excess problems like cold, fever or acute pain.
Will my insurance cover Acupuncture?
Insurance coverage varies from state to state, and also depends on individual/company coverage plan policies. Please bring your insurance card and our office will be happy to check on your individual coverage.
