ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture activates the body’s Qi and promotes natural healing by enhancing recuperative power, immunity and physical and emotional health. The Acupuncturist places fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints on the body improving overall function and well-being. Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to treat a wide variety of medical problems.
AURICULOTHERAPY
Acupuncture on the external ear has been practiced throughout history for at least twenty-five centuries. It was especially popular in ancient Greece and Rome. Velona translates to needle in Greek. On the ear, there are more than one hundred acupoints that relate to various organ systems and parts of the body. There is a very strong relationship between the external ear and the central nervous system. Additionally, small round vaccaria “seeds” can be placed on the ear points with tape and the patient can continue their treatment away from the office by rubbing the ear seeds. This treatment is especially effective for the control of smoking and other addictions.
CUPPING (Ventuzas)
Cupping is a therapy designed to stimulate the flow of blood and Qi within the superficial muscle layers. It is used for sore muscles, tension, neck pain and the common cold. Small glass or plastic "cups" are placed over specific areas on the body. A vacuum is created under the cup using suction. The cups may be moved over an affected area or left in place. Patients may leave the office looking as though a large octopus gave them a big hug. There is no need for alarm. The slight redness quickly dissipates.
GUA SHA
Gua Sha releases muscle tension, tightness and constriction by increasing circulation of Qi and blood. A specialized tool is used to gently scrape or rub the skin over a problem area. Gua Sha feels a bit like deep massage. This too may leave some slight redness that will quickly dissipate.
WARM STONE THERAPY
Relaxing ... Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
TUI NA
Tui Na translates as "push grasp". It is a massage technique that moves Qi in various parts of the body. It is used to relieve muscle pain, tension and inflammation and to heal injuries.
MOXIBUSTION
Moxibustion is a treatment that uses a dried herb called mugwort or by its Latin name, Artemesia Vulgaris. It may be burned on the handle of the needle, above the skin, on salt or on a slice of ginger. This is used to "warm" acupuncture points or areas in order to quicken the healing process.
